Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Pere Egbi, has criticised Nigerians discussing the United States midterm elections, urging them to pay more attention to political developments at home, particularly President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the 2027 general elections.
Pere, who is also a United States citizen, expressed his displeasure over the attention some Nigerians have been giving the American electoral process, suggesting that their energy would be better spent monitoring political affairs in their own country.
In a post reacting to the conversations surrounding the US midterm elections, the reality TV star questioned why Nigerians were so invested in political developments in America when they had pressing political and economic issues to address at home.
He urged Nigerians to shift their attention to President Tinubu’s leadership, his government’s policies, and the decisions that could shape the country’s future ahead of the 2027 elections.
Pere’s comments have brought attention to the wider conversation about political awareness and civic engagement, particularly the tendency of social media users to follow international political developments while domestic issues continue to generate debate.
His message also highlights the importance of holding Nigerian political leaders accountable, especially as preparations and discussions surrounding the next general elections gradually gain momentum.
Although Nigerians living at home and abroad have legitimate reasons to follow international politics, Pere’s central argument was that citizens should not lose sight of the political decisions and leadership choices that directly affect their everyday lives.
