
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly chosen Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
She is expected to run alongside the party’s governorship flagbearer, Obafemi Hamzat, as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the next electoral cycle in the state.
A native of Badagry, Sonayon-James is well known within APC circles for her grassroots political engagement and advocacy for increased female representation in governance and public service.
She currently serves as the APC Deputy State Chairman in Lagos State. Prior to this role, she held the position of State Assistant Woman Leader, where she played an active role in party mobilization and organizational activities across the state.
Her public service experience also extends to local government administration. She previously served as Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area, contributing to the implementation of community-focused development initiatives.
Outside politics, Sonayon-James has established herself in the private sector, with experience in human resources, logistics, and sustainability management. She is also the Chief Executive Officer of DGS Chauffeurs and Logistics.
Academically, she holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and a degree in Business and Human Resources Management from University of Hull.
The APC is expected to make an official announcement regarding her nomination in the coming days.
