Governor Otti Assumes Medical Costs for Veteran Nollywood Actor Sonny McDon’s Cancer Treatment

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has pledged to cover the medical expenses of veteran Nollywood actor Sonny McDon as he continues treatment for prostate cancer.

The announcement was made by J Martins, the governor’s Special Assistant on Entertainment and Tourism, who disclosed that the actor has been battling the illness for several years.

According to him, Governor Otti has approved full support for McDon’s treatment, easing the financial burden associated with his ongoing medical care.

In a statement shared on social media, J Martins expressed appreciation for the governor’s intervention, describing it as a compassionate gesture toward one of Abia State’s respected entertainment figures.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the welfare of aging actors in Nigeria’s film industry, many of whom have faced health and financial difficulties in recent years.

Sonny McDon is widely regarded as a veteran of Nollywood, having spent more than three decades contributing to the growth of the industry as an actor, producer, director, and motion picture programmer.

Throughout his career, he has featured in several notable productions, including Amanyanabo: The Eagle, Force Empire, and Domitilla: The Reboot.

Governor Otti’s intervention has been welcomed by members of the entertainment community, who view it as a significant show of support for a respected industry figure during a challenging period in his life.
