The Federal Government has officially renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, making it the latest public infrastructure to bear his name since he assumed office in May 2023.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the decision on Thursday, explaining that the 750-kilometre highway was named in recognition of Tinubu’s role in conceiving the project during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State nearly three decades ago.
According to Umahi, the coastal highway was first envisioned about 27 years ago, long before Tinubu became Nigeria’s president.
The latest decision adds to a growing list of roads, government institutions and public facilities that have been renamed or established in honour of the president.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway became the newest infrastructure to carry Tinubu’s name after the announcement on July 16, 2026. Umahi said the renaming acknowledges the president’s long-standing vision for the landmark project.

In March 2024, Niger State Governor Umar Bago renamed the Abubakar Imam International Airport in Minna as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, citing the president’s support for the state. The move attracted public attention because the airport had only recently been named after the late literary icon, Abubakar Imam.

The Federal Government approved the establishment of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, Abuja, in January 2025. The institution was created to provide technical, vocational and entrepreneurial education.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks
Also in January 2025, the Nigerian Army named its newly completed barracks in Asokoro after the president, describing the gesture as a way of honouring his contributions. The facility includes residential accommodation, worship centres, sports facilities and other operational infrastructure.
Tinubu International Conference Centre
In June 2025, the Federal Capital Territory Administration renamed the Abuja International Conference Centre as the Tinubu International Conference Centre after completing a major renovation of the facility. Several halls within the complex were also renamed after senior government officials.
With the addition of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, at least eight major public infrastructure projects and institutions have now been named after President Bola Tinubu since he assumed office in May 2023, reflecting a continuing trend during his administration.
