Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche, has criticised the Afrobeats genre, arguing that many of its songs lack meaningful lyrics and have a harmful influence on young people.
Speaking during the church’s Mid-Year Worship Concert, Enenche urged gospel musicians to produce more youth-focused songs that promote positive values and serve as an alternative to secular music.
Announcing a planned Youth Fire Night scheduled for September 25, the cleric called on gospel music ministers, including Prinx Emmanuel, to make themselves available for the event.
According to him, young people need music that delivers uplifting messages rather than content he believes promotes negative behaviour.
Enenche also expressed concern that some Afrobeats songs glorify unhealthy lifestyles and bad influences, urging gospel artistes to create more impactful, message-driven music that teaches good values, encourages wise decision-making, and helps youths avoid destructive habits and peer pressure.
