The University of Calabar (UNICAL) Student Union Government (SUG) has issued an update on the challenges students are facing with the newly upgraded student portal, including OTP delivery problems for returning students and difficulties accessing acceptance fee receipts among freshers.
In a notice released by the Office of the Director of Information, SUG, the union explained that the portal activation process for returning students has not yet commenced, urging students to remain patient while the relevant authorities work to resolve the issue.
Returning Students Await Portal Activation
According to the notice, returning students have experienced difficulties receiving the One-Time Password (OTP) required to activate their student portals through their email addresses.
The SUG disclosed that it had visited the Directorate of Information and Innovation to present the challenges affecting students.
It added that a meeting was ongoing among the relevant authorities to address the situation. Students will be notified when the portal is activated and they can proceed with the activation process.
The union advised returning students to remain calm and wait for further official announcements.
Freshers Asked to Submit Acceptance Fee Receipts
Meanwhile, newly admitted students who paid their acceptance fees before the recent portal upgrade but can no longer access their receipts or payment records have been given a directive.
The affected students are required to submit hard copies of their acceptance fee payment receipts to the Directorate of Information, Student Union Government.
According to the notice, the receipts will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities at the Directorate of Information and Innovation to facilitate the updating of the affected students’ records on the new portal.
Freshers experiencing the issue have been advised to submit their receipts promptly to avoid unnecessary delays in updating their records.
SUG Urges Students to Follow Official Updates
The Office of the Director of Information reaffirmed its commitment to providing students with timely and accurate information regarding registration, portal updates and other campus developments.
Students were also advised to rely on the SUG’s official communication channels for verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.
The union expressed appreciation for the patience and cooperation of students as the relevant authorities work towards resolving the portal-related challenges.
