IBADAN, October 27, 2026 — Akanbi Elizabeth, widow of late Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, broke down in tears while paying tribute to her husband at a memorial event in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday.
In an emotional moment captured in a video from the event, Elizabeth struggled to complete her tribute before pleading with her late husband not to forget her and their children.
“Toluwanisings, my dear husband. I will forever miss you. Please do not forget your children and me,” she said tearfully.
The tribute night attracted several gospel artists, including Adeyinka Alaseyori, Esther Igbekele, Laolu Gbenjo, Bidemi Olaoba, Peterson Okopi, and Sarah Apekeola. Nollywood actress Bimbo Oshin and other celebrities also attended.
Toluwanisings reportedly died on October 14, 2026, after slumping in Ibadan.
His death has sparked controversy, with his personal assistant, Babadunni Gbolabo, alleging that efforts to secure emergency medical attention took the singer to several hospitals.
Meanwhile, the singer’s father, Muniru Adekunle Olayemi, has disclosed a disagreement with the widow over burial arrangements. He reportedly wants his son buried at his house or in Ikirun, Osun State, where the singer’s late mother was buried.
The circumstances surrounding the singer’s death have prompted calls for an investigation.
SNOW TV EDITORIAL ANALYSIS
The emotional tribute by Toluwanisings’ widow reflects the profound pain of losing a husband and father while highlighting the uncertainty facing the family left behind. Beyond the grief, allegations surrounding the circumstances of his death raise important questions about access to emergency healthcare and the need for accountability. The personal assistant’s claims about attempts to obtain medical attention warrant an impartial investigation to establish the facts and determine whether any lapses occurred.
The disagreement over burial arrangements also highlights the importance of understanding, respect, and dialogue within grieving families. While cultural traditions and parental wishes deserve consideration, the widow’s concerns and the welfare of the children should not be overlooked. Public discussion should avoid speculation and premature blame, allowing verified evidence to guide conclusions. Ultimately, ensuring transparency over the singer’s death, supporting his bereaved family, and respecting their privacy would provide a more meaningful response than prolonged controversy.
