Manchester City Complete £20m Signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace

Manchester City have finalised the transfer of defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in a deal valued at an initial £20 million.

The England international joins the Premier League champions at a reduced fee due to his contract situation, with only six months remaining on his deal at Selhurst Park. Palace opted to cash in on their captain rather than risk losing him on a free transfer.

The agreement also includes a sell-on clause, and the 25-year-old has committed his future to City by signing a five-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.

Speaking after completing the move, Guehi expressed his delight at joining the club, describing it as a proud moment in his career.

“I’m extremely happy and proud to be a Manchester City player. This feels like the reward for all the hard work I’ve put into my career,” he said. “I’m joining the best club in England and an incredible group of players. I’m excited to grow both as a footballer and as a person here.”

He added that continuing his development at City was a special moment for him and his family, and said he was eager to meet his teammates, work under the manager, and impress the club’s supporters.

Guehi had attracted interest from several top clubs, including Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich, who were reportedly considering a free transfer move in the summer.

The former Chelsea defender becomes Pep Guardiola’s second signing of the January transfer window, following the £64 million acquisition of forward Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth.

His arrival also takes Manchester City’s total spending over the past year to approximately £445.9 million across 15 signings.
