Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid has responded sharply to Seun Kuti following ongoing comparisons between him and the late Afrobeat icon, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
The disagreement began after Seun dismissed claims that Wizkid is “bigger” or more influential than his father, arguing that such comparisons undermine Fela’s enduring political, cultural, and historical impact, which he said goes far beyond commercial success in music.
Seun also criticised Wizkid’s fans for repeatedly invoking Fela’s name in online debates, describing the trend as disrespectful and rooted in a misunderstanding of history. While acknowledging Wizkid’s success, he questioned the need to rank him above Fela and raised concerns about Wizkid’s use of the nickname “Big Bird,” which he claimed was associated with him.
Reacting via Instagram, Wizkid rejected the comparisons but insisted on his dominance in terms of contemporary success, firing back with strong words directed at Seun Kuti and asserting his status in today’s music industry.
