Al-Ittihad Fans Set Benzema’s Jersey Ablaze After Surprise Switch to Al-Hilal {VIDEO}

Anger has flared among Al-Ittihad supporters following Karim Benzema’s stunning move to Saudi Pro League rivals Al-Hilal, with some fans burning jerseys bearing the striker’s name in protest.

Photos and videos circulating on social media show disgruntled supporters setting fire to Benzema’s shirts, voicing their frustration over his decision to join a direct title rival after spending two and a half seasons at Al-Ittihad.

Benzema, who completed the move to Al-Hilal as a free agent after declining a contract extension from Al-Ittihad, addressed fans in a farewell message shared on 𝕏. In the post, he reflected on his time at the club and thanked supporters for their backing.

“This chapter comes to an end, but the respect and gratitude will remain forever. Thank you to the club, the staff, my teammates, and especially the fans for the welcome, love, and energy you gave me every day,” he said.

He added that his time at Al-Ittihad was fulfilling both personally and professionally, noting that he leaves “with his head held high,” proud to have represented the club and shared memorable moments.

The former Real Madrid captain joined Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023 and played a key role in the club’s Saudi Pro League title triumph during the 2024–2025 season, alongside stars such as N’Golo Kanté and Fabinho.

Despite being 38, Benzema has remained a major influence on the pitch, scoring 16 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions this season.

However, reports suggest the striker rejected Al-Ittihad’s renewal offer after feeling it did not reflect his value — a decision that has now triggered backlash from fans who once regarded him as a club legend.
