FCT Polls: PDP Records Overwhelming Win At Big Cele Settlement Unit In Bwari

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured a decisive victory at Big Cele Settlement, Polling Unit 076, Dutse Alhaji Ward in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), during the 2026 Area Council elections.

The party emerged dominant in both the chairmanship and councillorship elections at the polling unit.

According to the official results from Polling Unit 076 (EC 8A, Serial No. 0000258), the PDP polled 74 votes in the chairmanship contest. The All Progressives Congress (APC) received two votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secured three. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) recorded one vote each, with other parties failing to gain any votes.

In the councillorship race, the PDP obtained 75 votes, APC scored four, ADC polled two, and SDP got one vote. Other political parties did not record any votes in the contest.

Election documents indicated that out of 140 registered voters, 92 were accredited. Eleven ballots were rejected in the chairmanship election, resulting in 81 valid votes, while 10 ballots were rejected in the councillorship poll, leaving 82 valid votes.

Amanyi Judith Ada served as the presiding officer at the polling unit.

Reacting to the results, PDP stalwart and presidential hopeful Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim thanked residents for their turnout and support. He described the outcome as a reflection of sustained grassroots engagement and collective commitment to development.

The exercise at the unit was reported to have been peaceful, with security personnel on ground and electoral officials adhering to laid-down procedures.

The result followed allegations that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, played a role in the withdrawal of the PDP candidate on the eve of the poll—claims that intensified political tension ahead of the election.

Party leaders noted that the sweeping victory highlights the PDP’s strong grassroots structure in the area and could strengthen its position ahead of upcoming elections, including the 2027 general polls.

The FCT Area Council elections, conducted across the six area councils, are considered an important measure of party mobilisation strength in Nigeria’s capital.
