A pastor in South Carolina, Rodney Gibson, has been arrested over allegations of sexual abuse involving a foster child in his care. His wife, Kawiana Young, is also facing charges in connection with the case.
Both individuals, aged 50, were taken into custody on April 1 and charged with unlawful conduct involving a minor. Gibson is additionally facing multiple charges, including criminal sexual conduct and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Authorities began investigating in March after a victim reported abuse allegedly suffered in the couple’s home, starting at age 15 and continuing until they exited the foster care system.
According to the South Carolina Department of Social Services, Young was a licensed foster parent from June 2021 to June 2025 before voluntarily giving up her license. However, officials noted there was no record of Gibson residing in the home, and he was not registered as a foster parent. Young had also reportedly indicated she was not in a relationship and did not disclose her marriage.
During the investigation, authorities discovered another child—reportedly adopted by Young through the foster care system in 2024—was living in the home. Young has also been accused of physically abusing that child, who was briefly placed in protective custody in March before being returned home, and later taken back into custody following the couple’s arrest.
The Department of Social Services says it is continuing to cooperate with law enforcement as investigations proceed. Both Gibson and Young have since been released on bond.
Gibson was identified as a pastor at Pathway 2 Hope Ministries, while Young is reported to own and operate DreamCatcher Child Development Center.
