JUST IN : Akeredolu’s Wife Announces Bid for Imo East Senate Seat

Former Ondo State First Lady, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has declared her intention to contest for the Imo East senatorial seat, brushing aside concerns about her eligibility and reaffirming her ties to the state.

Speaking with journalists in Owerri, she dismissed criticisms surrounding her origin and marital status, insisting that marriage does not erase one’s heritage.

“My name is Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu. I cannot drop the Anyanwu; it shaped who I was before marriage,” she stated.

Akeredolu, who is seeking the ticket of the Labour Party, said her ambition is driven by the need to provide effective representation for the district.

She emphasised that her goal is to deliver meaningful democratic dividends rather than personal gain, adding that the people of Owerri deserve quality leadership.

The former First Lady also criticised what she described as a disconnect between federal lawmakers and grassroots governance, arguing that certain responsibilities are being misplaced.

On her legislative priorities, she pledged to champion laws promoting breast cancer awareness and affordable treatment, noting that many lives could be saved through improved policies.

She explained that her return to active politics is motivated by a desire to create broader impact through public office, beyond what private initiatives can achieve.

Akeredolu also advocated for greater female participation in politics, saying her party’s leadership inspired her decision to run.

She previously contested the Imo East senatorial seat in 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is now seeking another opportunity on a different platform.
