The national leadership of the Accord Party has announced that it will not present a governorship candidate in Abia State for the 2027 elections.
The party also directed its members and executives in the state to support the re-election bid of Governor Alex Otti.
The decision was disclosed on Wednesday during a visit by the party’s National Chairman, Christopher Imumolen, and National Secretary, Mukhtar Abdullah Djungo, to Otti’s residence in Nvosi, Isialangwa South Local Government Area.
Imumolen explained that the party’s endorsement was based on Otti’s performance in office, noting that opposition parties should not only criticise governments but also recognise effective leadership when it is evident.
According to him, the governor’s achievements in Abia State convinced the Accord Party leadership to throw its support behind him ahead of the next election.
Speaking on behalf of the party, Djungo assured Otti that no Accord Party candidate would challenge him in the 2027 governorship race. He added that the party’s National Working Committee had instructed its state chapter to collaborate with the Labour Party in supporting the current administration for the benefit of Abia residents.
In his response, Otti appreciated the party’s leadership for the endorsement and pledged continued collaboration with groups committed to the welfare and security of the people of Abia State.
