The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced May 9, 2026, as the date for its first National Convention, scheduled to take place in Abuja ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that a series of congresses are already underway nationwide.
According to him, ward and polling unit congresses are set for May 1 and 2, followed by local government and state congresses on May 4, with zonal congresses slated for May 6 ahead of the national convention.
He explained that the phased process is aimed at building party structures from the grassroots to the national level in line with its constitution and operational framework.
Abdulsalam described the upcoming convention as a major milestone for the party, adding that preparations have been concluded and the event will host accredited delegates, party members, and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who will monitor proceedings.
He assured members that adequate arrangements have been made for logistics, security, and coordination to ensure a smooth exercise across the country.
The NDC expressed confidence that the ongoing congresses will strengthen its internal democratic processes and better position the party for future political activities.
