Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has revealed that he was among those deceived by Adeniyi Adeyemi, the man accused of falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Speaking during Wednesday’s plenary session in the House of Representatives, Kalu disclosed that his interactions with Adeyemi have been widely circulated in the media, with photographs showing both of them together.
“I was also a victim. Anyone who has followed the news would have seen my picture displayed alongside the individual who claimed to be the Director-General of the organisation,” he said.
Kalu explained that although the documents presented by the organisation initially raised doubts, some details appeared convincing enough to warrant further verification.
He recalled that in May 2025, his office received a letter bearing the Presidency’s letterhead and identifying the sender as the Office of the Director-General of the PFIPC.
According to him, the letter listed an office address at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase Three, Second Floor, Central Business District, a detail that prompted his office to investigate before taking any further action.
“My first impression was that some of the information looked authentic, while other parts did not. Because of the inconsistencies, I directed my staff to verify whether the organisation actually operated from the address stated in the letter.
“My team later confirmed that the office existed at the location provided. Based on that report, I approved a meeting with them,” Kalu stated.
