Nollywood actor and politician Emeka Ike joined demonstrators in Abuja on Friday as Nigerians marked Democracy Day with protests highlighting the country’s worsening security situation.
During the demonstration, the actor called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to combat insecurity, warning that the growing activities of bandits and kidnappers pose a serious threat to citizens across the country.
Emeka Ike expressed concern over the impact of insecurity on everyday life, noting that it has deprived many Nigerians of the freedom to move around safely.
He revealed that travelling by road from Lagos to Imo State was once one of his most cherished experiences, but the deteriorating security situation has made such journeys increasingly dangerous.
According to the actor, the fear of attacks by criminal elements has discouraged many people from undertaking road trips they once enjoyed without concern.
Appealing to authorities to act decisively, Ike warned that insecurity should not be allowed to escalate further, stressing that no one is immune from its consequences.
He cautioned that the victims of insecurity could one day include the families of those in positions of authority, urging leaders to take the threat seriously before it worsens.
The actor also warned against allowing bandits and criminal groups to gain greater control, arguing that the stability and future of the nation depend on restoring security and protecting citizens.
He emphasized that while some individuals may have the means to relocate abroad, millions of Nigerians have no choice but to remain in the country and depend on the government to guarantee their safety.
The protest formed part of broader Democracy Day activities, with participants calling for stronger measures to address insecurity and improve the welfare of citizens nationwide.
