Kcee Opens Up on Industry Struggles

Nigerian Afrobeats star Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, has shared how repeated snubs from award organisers once left him emotionally hurt and in tears.

Speaking during an interview on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, the “Limpopo” hitmaker revealed that he often felt overlooked despite his efforts and contributions to the music industry, describing the experience as unfair.

Kcee explained that the lack of recognition from award bodies deeply affected him at the time, especially as he continued to put in significant work without receiving nominations. However, he noted that his fans remained supportive throughout that period.

According to him, the constant exclusion eventually led him to shift his mindset—choosing to focus more on tangible success and impact rather than industry validation through awards.

Reflecting on his journey, the singer said moments like the success of “Limpopo” were deeply emotional for him, as it marked a major breakthrough and global recognition after years of persistence. He also highlighted the organic success of his recent track “Ojapiano,” which quickly gained massive traction online, particularly on TikTok, attracting international listeners.

Kcee added that he now prioritizes his music and fanbase, stressing that rewards and real impact matter more to him than accolades.
