Human rights activist and politician, Aisha Yesufu, has responded sharply to remarks allegedly made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, concerning her unsuccessful attempt to secure the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial ticket in the FCT.
According to reports, Wike, while speaking at an event in Rivers State on Saturday, mocked Yesufu over her defeat in the NDC ticket race, suggesting that practical politics involves more than media visibility and noting that she could not secure victory even within the party.
Reacting through a post on her X account, Yesufu challenged the minister to mention her name openly rather than making indirect comments.
She wrote that if Wike was bold enough to call her out directly, his experience would make what happened to him during the 2022 presidential primary contest seem insignificant.
The activist also revisited Wike’s loss in the 2022 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary, alleging that he later sought to become the party’s vice-presidential candidate but was overlooked.
According to Yesufu, Wike failed to win the PDP primary and was equally unsuccessful in his bid to secure the running mate position. She further accused him of subsequently working against the party after the primary election.
Maintaining that the FCT minister lacked the moral authority to question her political credentials, Yesufu insisted she would reserve further comments until Wike mentioned her name directly.
She added that, as someone from Edo State’s Kukuruku region, she would not bow to anyone simply because they occupy a position of power.
