Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Monday visited the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during his time in office.
Sources within the commission disclosed that the visit was connected to allegations of fund diversion while Okowa served as governor of Delta State.
The former governor was arrested by the EFCC in November 2024 over claims that about ₦1.3 trillion was misappropriated during his eight-year administration. He was also accused of using state funds to acquire properties in Asaba and Abuja.
Following his arrest, Okowa maintained that Delta State resources were properly managed and expressed confidence in facing any investigation.
According to him, he had nothing to fear, insisting that he served the state with the intention of delivering the best possible governance within available resources.
He also criticized the EFCC, accusing the anti-corruption agency of conducting a media trial against him.
Okowa governed Delta State from 2015 to 2023 under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party and was the vice-presidential candidate alongside Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election.
In April 2025, he left the PDP and joined the All Progressives Congress along with his successor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and several other political figures in Delta State.
