The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has officially confirmed the senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Bauchi State election.
Reports indicate that Buba was affirmed on Monday in Bauchi following the party’s governorship primary election.
The announcement was made by the PRP Deputy National Vice Chairman (North), Haruna Buhari, who also supervised the primary process in Bauchi State.
Buhari explained that the exercise formed part of the party’s nationwide primaries conducted across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in line with party rules and electoral regulations.
He noted that Shehu Buba emerged as the only screened aspirant for the ticket and fulfilled all required constitutional and legal conditions.
According to him, the party’s constitution allows for affirmation where only one candidate remains, provided delegates consent to the process. He added that this procedure was duly completed.
Buhari further stated that 766 delegates from Bauchi State’s 20 local government areas participated and endorsed Buba’s candidacy.
In his acceptance speech, Buba pledged that if elected governor, his administration would implement a ₦80,000 minimum wage for public sector workers.
He described the PRP as a political movement founded on justice, equality, and the dignity of ordinary citizens, aligning its ideology with the legacy of the late Mallam Aminu Kano.
He also called for unity within the party and extended reconciliation gestures to supporters of other aspirants, urging them to work together moving forward.
Buba highlighted security, infrastructure, agriculture, mining, and economic development as key priorities of his proposed administration.
He stressed that insecurity discourages investment and agricultural productivity, saying meaningful progress would require restoring safety across communities.
The PRP candidate also pledged investments in road networks, storage systems, renewable energy, and industrial infrastructure.
His emergence came on the same day he formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the PRP.
In an earlier statement through his media aide, Sabo Mohammed, Buba said his departure from the APC followed consultations with political allies and supporters across Bauchi State.
He cited a lack of internal democracy, unfair treatment, marginalisation of members, and disregard for grassroots voices as reasons for his exit.
Buba also accused APC officials in Bauchi of announcing predetermined primary results without conducting a proper voting process, which led to his withdrawal from the party’s governorship race before joining the PRP.
