Tight Security As African Democratic Congress Holds National Convention in Abuja

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force have deployed heavily to the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja, the venue of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) national convention.

Reports indicate that security personnel carried out strict screening of delegates and journalists before granting them access to the event. About 3,000 delegates are expected to attend, with the aim of electing members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to lead its affairs over the next four years.

Security patrol vehicles were also strategically positioned around the venue, with operatives maintaining a strong presence throughout the area.

Meanwhile, a member of the convention planning committee, Dino Melaye, maintained that nothing would stop the convention from taking place. Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, he dismissed concerns about challenges with securing the venue.

Melaye revealed that there were attempts to disrupt the event, including efforts to shut the gates and force organisers out. However, he insisted that the party stood its ground, citing a valid contract and full payment for the facility.

He added that the ADC possesses all necessary documents, including receipts and signed agreements, affirming their right to use the venue. According to him, the convention will proceed as planned, expressing confidence in the party’s strength and its ambition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
