The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged residents of the state to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election, saying voting against him would be “wrong” given his family ties to the state.
Naija News reports that Oborevwori made the remark during an interview on Arise Television, where he emphasized that the President has a personal connection to Delta State through First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.
According to him, among the major political figures expected to contest, President Bola Tinubu stands out as having a direct affinity with Delta State and should therefore be supported.
“Among the candidates that emerged, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the only one with an affiliation to Delta State. He is an in-law here, and it would be wrong to vote against your in-law. It’s like a family matter,” he said.
The governor further argued that the South-South region, particularly Delta State, sees Tinubu as “one of their own,” adding that past political choices were influenced by misinformation, which would not be repeated.
He also credited the First Lady for strengthening the President’s political support in the state, especially among different ethnic groups, including the Itsekiri and Urhobo communities.
Oborevwori maintained that the economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration have improved revenue inflows to states, enabling more developmental projects.
He explained that increased federal allocations have made it possible for state governments to execute more capital projects, attributing the improvement to ongoing national reforms.
The comments come months after the First Lady was honoured with a traditional title in the Warri Kingdom, an event that highlighted her family ties to the region and reinforced her cultural connection to Delta State.
