Global athletics governing body World Athletics has turned down the request by Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili to change her sporting nationality to Turkey.
Ofili had sought to represent the European nation at the 2028 Olympic Games. However, in a document released on Thursday, April 16, the World Athletics Nationality Review Panel confirmed that the application submitted by the Türkiye Athletics Federation would not be approved after a thorough assessment.
According to the panel, approving the request would conflict with established regulations governing athlete nationality transfers in international competitions.
“The application by the TAF for Favour Ofili to transfer allegiance from Nigeria to Turkey is not approved,” the panel stated.
