Nigerian rapper Sodiq Yusuf (CDQ), popularly known as CDQ, has alleged that success and support in the music industry are often influenced by affiliation with certain groups, gangs, or influential circles.
Speaking during a recent interview with Jbrandy Entertainment, the rapper claimed that artists who operate independently without such connections frequently struggle to gain support and may invest heavily in their careers without seeing meaningful returns.
According to CDQ, one of the harsh realities of the music business is that many opportunities are reserved for those linked to specific networks or associations. He noted that independent artists who manage to succeed without belonging to any group should consider themselves fortunate.
CDQ said the industry has evolved into an environment where affiliations often determine who receives assistance, adding that artists without such backing may find it difficult to achieve a return on their investments.
The rapper first gained widespread recognition in 2015 with his hit single Nowo E Soke, which featured Wizkid. Since then, he has established himself as one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous rappers, known for his signature “Woss Wobi” ad-lib.
In 2016, CDQ expanded his career by launching his own record label, N.S.N.S Entertainment, further cementing his presence in the Nigerian music scene.
