The Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON) hosted the landmark 40th edition of its annual Archdiocesan Youth Day (AYD) Co-hosted by the Maryland Deanery at the Marian Shrine, St. Agnes Catholic Church in Maryland, Lagos, the event drew over 7,000 young Catholic pilgrims.

The Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON) has held its annual Archdiocesan Youth Day (AYD), hosted by the Maryland Deanery, at Maryland Comprehensive College, Lagos Mainland.

The event, held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, brought together Catholic youths for a day of faith, fellowship, spiritual reflection and community building.

The theme of this year’s celebration was “Take Courage, I Have Overcome the World”, drawn from John 16:33.

The theme encouraged young Catholics to remain courageous and steadfast in their faith while facing the challenges and uncertainties of today’s world.

The annual AYD provided an opportunity for Catholic youths from different parishes and communities to interact, strengthen their relationship with God and reflect on their responsibilities within the Church and society.

Hosted by the Maryland Deanery, the programme featured activities aimed at promoting spiritual growth, unity, leadership and positive engagement among young people.

The gathering also underscored the important role of Catholic youths in building stronger families, communities and a more responsible society through their faith and commitment to Christian values.

The organisers expressed appreciation to participants, clergy, religious leaders, volunteers and everyone who contributed to the success of the annual celebration.
