The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that Senator Adeola Olamilekan remains its candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, dismissing the claim of Mr Abayomi Hunye to the party’s ticket.
The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, describing Hunye as an “imposter” currently suspended from the party.
Basiru said the party had already concluded its primary election and nominated Adeola as its governorship candidate, with Balogun Abiodun as his running mate.
According to him, the details of both candidates have been uploaded to the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APC national secretary said Hunye was not a member of the party in good standing, having been suspended on April 7, 2026.
“Hunye is not a member of the APC; in good standing, he was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026; he is an imposter currently on suspension,” Basiru said.
He explained that the suspension followed a petition from Hunye’s Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area.
Basiru said the decision was reached at the grassroots level, ratified by the relevant party executives and subsequently approved by the Ogun State Working Committee.
“His suspension was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the national headquarters,” he said.
He described Hunye’s recent claim to be the APC governorship candidate as “completely false, unauthorised, and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public.”
Basiru said Hunye’s suspension was based on allegations that he engaged in activities considered harmful to the image and unity of the party.
He listed the reasons to include alleged anti-party activities and deliberate actions aimed at creating division and disaffection among APC members.
“Consequently, he lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity,” the national secretary said.
The party stressed that its position was clear on the Ogun governorship ticket, insisting that Adeola remains the candidate after his nomination at the APC primary election.
“We reiterate that following the validly conducted primary election of the APC, the duly nominated and elected governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election is Senator Adeola Olamilekan, with his running mate being Balogun Abiodun.
“This is in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026 and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,” he stated.
He added that the names and other details of Adeola and Abiodun had been successfully uploaded to the INEC portal.
According to him, INEC had also issued official acknowledgement slips confirming the duo as the recognised APC candidates for the 2027 Ogun governorship election.
The party further warned individuals, groups and organisations against conducting political or financial transactions with Hunye while presenting himself as an APC candidate.
“Any person, group or organisation that associates, collaborates or transacts any political business with Hunye under the guise of the APC does so at their own risk,” Basiru warned.
“The party will not be held liable for any financial loss, legal disputes or criminal liability that may arise from such dealings.”
The APC national secretary urged party members and supporters in Ogun State to remain calm and law-abiding, while avoiding actions capable of disrupting the peace of the state.
