2027 Elections: Tinubu and Shettima Lead APC Leaders to Kaduna for Presidential Campaign Kick-off

SNOW TV NEWS DESK
President Bola Tinubu will on Saturday lead top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Kaduna State for the party’s first presidential campaign rally ahead of the January 16, 2027, general election.

The rally will formally launch Tinubu’s campaign for re-election, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima expected to join the President alongside the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Abdul’aziz Yari, and the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.

The event is also expected to attract APC governors, members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), National Executive Committee (NEC), and National Caucus.

Other prominent attendees are expected to include National Assembly leaders, former governors, state party chairmen, and other influential APC chieftains from across the country.

The gathering represents the ruling party’s first major presidential campaign event since electioneering officially commenced on August 19, setting the stage for what is expected to be a fiercely contested presidential race.

The APC will face significant competition from opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as the major political blocs intensify efforts to win voters’ support ahead of the polls.

Why Kaduna Matters to the APC

The choice of Kaduna as the venue for the campaign launch carries considerable political significance.

In the 2023 presidential election, Kaduna voted for Atiku Abubakar, the then-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of Tinubu. The state is therefore emerging as an important battleground in the ruling party’s efforts to strengthen its electoral position in the North-West.

The political landscape has also evolved since the last election. Atiku is now the ADC’s presidential candidate, while former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai serves as deputy chairman of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council.

Their involvement in the opposition’s campaign could intensify the contest for Kaduna and other strategically important northern states.

For the APC, holding its presidential campaign launch in Kaduna offers an opportunity to demonstrate its organizational strength, mobilize supporters, and reinforce its message in a state where the party faces a significant electoral challenge.

APC Plans Nationwide Campaign Tour

According to the party’s proposed campaign timetable, the presidential campaign tour will cover all 36 states, beginning in Kaduna and concluding with a mega rally in Lagos on January 9, 2027, one week before the presidential election.

Tinubu is expected to personally attend campaign rallies in 12 states: Kaduna, Rivers, Plateau, Oyo, Borno, Enugu, Bauchi, Sokoto, Delta, Kano, Adamawa, and Lagos.

The planned itinerary underscores the APC’s intention to reach voters across different geopolitical zones, strengthen its grassroots structures, and consolidate support for the president’s re-election bid.

With the election approaching, the campaign will provide the ruling party with an opportunity to present its record in government, outline its policy priorities, and respond to criticisms from opposition parties.

Kaduna Rally Sets the Tone for Tinubu’s Re-election Bid

The APC’s decision to launch Tinubu’s presidential campaign in Kaduna highlights the strategic importance of northern Nigeria to the president’s re-election ambitions. Having lost the state to Atiku in 2023, the ruling party faces the challenge of rebuilding its appeal among voters in a politically competitive region.

However, a high-profile rally alone will not guarantee electoral success. The APC must convince Nigerians that its administration has made meaningful progress on the economy, security, employment, and the cost of living. These issues are likely to weigh heavily on voters’ decisions in 2027.

The opposition, meanwhile, will seek to capitalize on public dissatisfaction and present credible alternatives. The contest in Kaduna could therefore serve as an early indication of the political strengths and weaknesses of the major parties.

Ultimately, the success of Tinubu’s campaign will depend not only on the size of rallies or the prominence of party leaders in attendance but also on the credibility of the administration’s record and the persuasiveness of its promises.

As campaigning gathers momentum, Nigerians will expect political parties to prioritize substantive policy debates, peaceful mobilization, and issue-based engagement over political rhetoric. The electorate’s verdict will be determined at the ballot box, where public confidence and performance will matter more than campaign spectacle.
