I Squandered My First Major Earnings From Music—Don Jazzy

SNOW TV NEWS DESK
Veteran Nigerian music producer and record label executive, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has opened up about how he wasted his first major earnings from music on extravagant spending instead of making meaningful investments.

The Mavin Records boss made the revelation during a recent appearance on the On The Grind podcast, where he reflected on his early financial decisions and the lessons he learned along the way.

Don Jazzy disclosed that he spent his first significant music earnings on luxury entertainment, including purchasing 50 bottles of champagne and partying at nightclubs.

However, he said he quickly realized the need for financial discipline and redirected his subsequent earnings towards investments, particularly in discovering and signing emerging musical talents.

According to the music executive, his investments in record labels and other businesses have provided him with financial security to the extent that he no longer needs to work to sustain himself.

He encouraged young people to develop sound financial habits early in their careers, stressing that building wealth requires more than simply earning money.

“The first big money I got from music, I lavished it. I bought 50 bottles of champagne and went clubbing. But I quickly coordinated myself and invested in signing new artists. Now I don’t have to work ever again,” he said.

He further advised young earners against unnecessary luxury spending, noting that investments do not necessarily have to be in the music industry.

“You don’t necessarily have to invest in a record label, but the money you are making in your youth, invest it in a lucrative business as opposed to wasting it on frivolities,” Don Jazzy advised.

SNOW TV EDITORIAL ANALYSIS
Don Jazzy’s revelation offers an important financial lesson, particularly for young entertainers, entrepreneurs, and individuals experiencing financial success for the first time.

His experience demonstrates that earning substantial money does not automatically translate into long-term wealth. Financial discipline, strategic investments, and the ability to resist unnecessary spending are essential to building a secure future.

However, his journey also highlights the importance of learning from financial mistakes. Young people should understand that wealth creation is not about how much money they earn or spend but how wisely they manage and multiply their resources. Ultimately, Don Jazzy’s message is simple: enjoy your success, but invest in your future before temporary pleasures consume your earnings.
