Japan’s U-17 women’s team head coach, Sadayoshi Shirai, has declared that his players are determined to finish their impressive FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup campaign by lifting the trophy when they face Nigeria’s Flamingos in Sunday’s final.
The highly anticipated encounter will take place at Pitch 3 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco, with both countries chasing their first-ever title in the competition.
The final will also mark the first meeting between Japan and Nigeria at the U-17 Women’s World Cup, adding another layer of excitement to a contest that promises to be a significant moment for both nations.
Japan has been one of the standout teams in this year’s tournament, winning all three of their group-stage matches. They are also the only country to have achieved a perfect group-stage record, demonstrating their consistency and determination throughout the competition.
However, Shirai believes his players must maintain their focus and avoid becoming satisfied with what they have already achieved. For the Japanese coach, reaching the final is only part of the mission; the ultimate ambition is to become world champions.
Speaking to FIFA, Shirai made it clear that his team has no intention of slowing down ahead of the decisive encounter.
“We don’t want to stop here. We’ll continue moving forward, prepare as well as we can for the final, and give everything we have to become world champions,” he said.
Japan’s impressive performances have established them as serious contenders for the title, but Nigeria’s Flamingos will present a different challenge as both sides prepare for the biggest match of their tournament.
For the Flamingos, the final represents an opportunity to make Nigerian football history by winning the country’s first U-17 Women’s World Cup title.
With both teams equally motivated by the prospect of lifting their maiden trophy, Sunday’s showdown is shaping up to be a battle of ambition, discipline, and mental strength.
While Japan will be hoping to complete their unbeaten group-stage journey with a historic triumph, Nigeria’s Flamingos will be determined to ensure the trophy heads to Africa.
