Senegalese-American singer Akon has reflected on his experience working with late pop icon Michael Jackson, describing it as one of the proudest moments of his music career.
Speaking during a recent episode of the We Need To Talk podcast, the “Oh Africa” singer said taking a photo with Michael Jackson remains his most treasured celebrity moment.
According to Akon, despite already being a global star at the time, he still considered himself insignificant compared to the legendary entertainer, whom he described as an idol to millions around the world.
The 53-year-old artist also spoke about his contribution to African music and revealed that he once worked closely with several Nigerian Afrobeats stars, including P-Square and Wizkid.
Akon clarified that he did not sign Wizkid directly, explaining that his involvement came through Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment, where Wizkid was signed at the time.
He went on to praise Nigerians for their impact on global Afrobeats, describing them as some of the most intelligent people in the world and commending their success in pushing the genre internationally.
