
The Chairman of the Accord Party (AP) in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, also known as Baba Isila, is currently in critical condition after he and his companions were attacked by suspected gunmen in Osogbo.
The incident reportedly happened around 9:50pm on Wednesday near the Community Bank axis in the MDS area.
According to reports from Sahara Reporters, eyewitnesses said the attackers opened fire on a blue Toyota Corolla carrying Ajibola and others. One of the passengers explained that the assailants pursued their vehicle and repeatedly shot at them.
“We were coming from the MDS area in Osogbo at about 9:50pm when armed men suddenly chased us and fired several shots at our vehicle,” he said.
The victims reportedly escaped to the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters, after which the attackers fled the scene.
Ajibola, who sustained severe injuries in the attack, was taken to the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, where he was said to be in a critical condition at the time of reporting.
Reacting to the incident, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, condemned the attack and demanded a full investigation.
He described the incident as unacceptable and urged security agencies to ensure those responsible are identified and prosecuted, stressing that the attack may have political undertones and must be thoroughly investigated without bias.
