Edo State APC Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, has dismissed a viral photograph showing him in an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) accredited jacket, insisting that the image was generated using artificial intelligence (AI).
The photo, which circulated widely on social media following the Ekiti State governorship election, sparked speculation about his role during the poll.
Speaking during an interview on AIT, Tenebe denied ever wearing an INEC observer jacket and maintained that his presence in Ekiti had been misrepresented.
According to him, he travelled to the state as part of an arrangement among APC state chairmen to support colleagues during off-cycle elections and was not involved in election monitoring.
He explained that APC chairmen across the country had agreed to assist one another during governorship elections held outside the regular election cycle, which was the reason for his visit.
Tenebe further claimed that the controversial image was the product of AI manipulation, accusing political opponents of using technology to spread misleading content.
The APC chieftain stressed that he had never been accredited by INEC as an election observer and had never held such a role at any time.
He also expressed concern over the growing misuse of artificial intelligence, warning that the technology could create serious challenges if used irresponsibly.
Addressing the source of the image, Tenebe said he first came across it on the social media page of former lawmaker Dino Melaye, whom he accused of promoting political drama.
The Ekiti governorship election was conducted on June 20, 2026, as part of Nigeria’s off-cycle governorship polls.
Following the conclusion of voting and collation of results, INEC declared incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC as the winner of the election.
