Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a work-free day for all public servants to enable them collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The directive, announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, and conveyed through a circular signed by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, covers state civil servants, local government employees, and workers in tertiary institutions.
According to the state government, the holiday is intended to give eligible voters enough time to fulfill their civic responsibility before the election.
However, workers providing essential services, including healthcare and security personnel, were advised to make internal arrangements to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Governor Adeleke also urged all registered voters, especially public servants and informal sector workers who are yet to collect their PVCs, to do so without delay.
“Your vote is your power. Your voter card is your access to the ballot,” the governor said, stressing the importance of broad participation in the election.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026. Adeleke, running on the Accord Party platform, is seeking a second term against APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, ADC candidate Najeem Salaam, and other contenders. INEC has approved 14 political parties to participate, while the PDP and Labour Party are not fielding candidates.
