2027 Presidency: Peter Obi Questions Tinubu’s Capacity to Lead, Says President Should Step Aside

SNOW TV NEWS DESK
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has questioned President Bola Tinubu’s ability to continue leading Nigeria, arguing that the president no longer possesses the energy required to handle the country’s demanding responsibilities.

Obi made the remarks during a town hall meeting in Calabar, Cross River State, where he called on Nigerians to make a more deliberate choice in the 2027 presidential election. He urged voters to support a leader with the competence, capacity, compassion, and commitment needed to address the country’s challenges and put it on a path to recovery.

According to Obi, Nigeria needs leadership that goes beyond political promises and is genuinely committed to creating opportunities for ordinary citizens, regardless of their background or connections.

“We want to build a country where a child of a nobody can be somebody without knowing anybody,” he said, highlighting his vision of a nation where hard work, talent, and determination, rather than privilege or political connections, determine how far an individual can go.

Taking a direct swipe at the incumbent president, Obi suggested that Tinubu should not seek another opportunity to lead the country, insisting that the demands of the presidency require a level of energy and commitment he believes the president no longer demonstrates.

“Tinubu is tired; he does not have the energy for the job. He should go home,” Obi declared.

His comments add to the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 general election, as opposition figures intensify their criticism of the Tinubu administration and attempt to position themselves as alternatives.

Beyond his criticism of the president, Obi’s message appeared to focus on a broader question about Nigeria’s future: whether the country can move away from a system where political influence and personal connections often determine opportunities towards one that rewards competence, fairness, and accountability.

With the 2027 presidential contest drawing increasing attention, such statements are likely to keep the debate over leadership, performance, and national direction firmly in the spotlight.
