Prominent Nigerian cleric and founder of the Ministers Prayer Network (MPN), Rev. Prof. Mosy Madugba, has sparked controversy after alleging that former President Olusegun Obasanjo allocated oil wells to some of Nigeria’s most influential pastors during his time in office.
In a video currently circulating on social media, Madugba specifically mentioned the founders of three major Christian organizations: Pastor David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and Pastor William Kumuyi of Deeper Christian Life Ministry.
According to the clergyman, the alleged oil well allocations played a significant role in the financial success of these religious leaders, who have built extensive business and educational empires, including universities, hospitals, and other institutions.
He further claimed that Obasanjo also allocated oil wells to some of his associates and kinsmen in the Niger Delta, allegedly giving them access to enormous wealth.
Madugba made the allegations while advising his congregation on the importance of associating with knowledgeable and influential individuals. He encouraged them to develop themselves, expand their capacity, and surround themselves with people who could positively influence their growth.
Explaining his point, he said some of the prominent pastors in Lagos had oil wells allegedly allocated to them by the former president. He specifically claimed that Oyedepo and Adeboye owned oil wells, alongside Kumuyi.
He also pointed to the pastors’ investments in universities, large hospitals, and private aviation as evidence of the enormous resources at their disposal.
However, Madugba’s claims have not been independently verified, and no supporting documents or official records were presented in the circulating video. There has also been no confirmation from the named pastors or former President Obasanjo regarding the allegations.
The claims are likely to generate debate, particularly given the enormous wealth, influence, and business interests associated with some of Nigeria’s biggest religious institutions.
For now, the allegations remain claims made by Madugba and should not be treated as established facts.
