Allow Me to Announce His Death’—Late Actor Diewait Ikpechukwu’s Daughter Tells AGN to Remove Tribute Post

SNOW TV NEWS DESK
The daughter of late Nollywood veteran actor Diewait Ikpechukwu, Chiamaka, has publicly expressed her displeasure with the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) over its announcement of her father’s death, asking the association to take down its condolence post.

Her reaction came just hours after reports emerged that the 71-year-old actor had died on Thursday, November 6, following an illness that has not been publicly disclosed.

In an emotional video shared online, Chiamaka appealed directly to the guild, insisting that she wanted to be the person to officially announce her father’s passing rather than have the news shared by industry bodies before she was ready.

“Please take down the post. Let me be the one to announce my papa’s death,” she said.

Clearly struggling with the loss, she also asked members of the entertainment industry and the public to respect her family’s privacy during what she described as an extremely difficult period.

Chiamaka further questioned the industry’s tendency to publicly celebrate and show affection for actors after their deaths, suggesting that such recognition should also be extended to them while they are still alive.

She expressed frustration over the tributes being shared online and specifically asked the AGN not to publish her father’s photographs or memorial posters.

“I’m still wearing my daddy’s shirt. Take that post down, please. Let me be the one to announce my papa’s death. I don’t want you guys to do that for me,” she added.

She also made it clear that she did not want calls or unnecessary contact from people following the news.

Her emotional reaction has drawn attention to an often-overlooked aspect of celebrity deaths: while the entertainment industry and fans may rush to pay tribute, immediate family members are still trying to process their personal loss.

For Chiamaka, the issue appears to go beyond a social media announcement. It is also about having the space and opportunity to grieve her father privately and share the heartbreaking news in her own time.
