The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called on the Federal Government to step up efforts to combat insecurity, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities threatening peace and stability across Nigeria.
In a Democracy Day message released on Friday through the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Moses Olafare, the revered monarch expressed concern over the persistent security challenges facing the country and their impact on national development.
The Ooni noted that insecurity remains a major obstacle to peace and progress, urging Nigerians to remain patient and continue supporting government initiatives aimed at addressing both security and economic difficulties.
He stressed that no responsible government would intentionally allow insecurity to flourish within its borders, emphasizing that the protection of lives and property is essential for sustainable growth and national stability.
While acknowledging the ongoing security concerns in different parts of the country, the traditional ruler urged federal, state, and local governments to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework and improve intelligence gathering mechanisms.
He also called for adequate funding and equipping of security agencies, as well as the diligent prosecution of individuals involved in criminal activities.
According to the monarch, democracy can only flourish in an environment where peace, security, and justice prevail.
“Democracy thrives best in an atmosphere of peace, security, and justice. As we celebrate another Democracy Day, I urge governments at all levels to intensify the fight against insecurity and banditry,” he stated.
The Ooni reiterated the need for a collective effort between government institutions, security agencies, and citizens to ensure a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
