NCDC Confirms Two Suspected Ebola Cases in Adamawa Tested Negative

SNOW TV NEWS DESK
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has announced that two suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) reported in Adamawa State tested negative following two rounds of laboratory examinations.

The agency clarified that the previously confirmed case of Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remains Nigeria’s only laboratory-confirmed infection.

In a statement, NCDC Director-General Dr. Jide Idris disclosed that the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre received reports of the suspected cases in the early hours of October 30, 2026.

According to him, the two individuals exhibited symptoms associated with Ebola and were immediately isolated while health authorities initiated investigations and preventive measures.

However, subsequent laboratory tests returned negative results, ruling out Ebola infection in both individuals.

Idris commended the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and his team for their swift response, assuring residents that the NCDC would continue providing technical assistance to strengthen the state’s disease surveillance and emergency response efforts.

The development follows heightened public health concerns after Nigeria confirmed a case of Bundibugyo Ebola involving a traveller who arrived in the country from Uganda.

The NCDC urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified reports or speculation about the situation. It advised the public to rely on official government and public health communication channels for accurate updates.

The agency also reminded citizens that Ebola is a serious infectious disease requiring early detection, prompt medical attention, and strict infection prevention measures.

Nigerians experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea, or unexplained bleeding, particularly following possible exposure, were advised to seek immediate medical attention and disclose their travel or contact history to healthcare professionals

The NCDC further cautioned against self-medication and pledged to continue monitoring the situation in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government and other relevant stakeholders.

Vigilance Remains Essential Despite Negative Results

The negative test results from Adamawa State are reassuring news for Nigerians, particularly at a time when concerns about Ebola transmission are growing.

However, the development should not encourage complacency. The presence of a confirmed Bundibugyo Ebola case in the country makes continuous surveillance, effective contact tracing, and public awareness essential.

The swift isolation and testing of the suspected cases also demonstrate the importance of a responsive public health system.

While Nigerians should avoid unnecessary panic and the spread of misinformation, they must take preventive health advice seriously. Government authorities, on their part, must sustain transparency, strengthen healthcare preparedness, and provide timely updates.

Ultimately, early detection and coordinated action remain Nigeria’s strongest tools against a potential Ebola outbreak.
