Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has said that ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States has produced clear and measurable operational results.
Ribadu made the statement on Thursday in Abuja during the inauguration of the US–Nigeria Joint Working Group. He expressed Nigeria’s gratitude for the strength and effectiveness of the military and security partnership between both countries.
“I want to formally acknowledge Nigeria’s appreciation for the depth, quality, and impact of US–Nigeria military and security cooperation,” Ribadu said. “Since the engagements held in November 2025, this partnership has delivered tangible operational outcomes.”
According to him, key achievements include improved intelligence sharing, closer collaboration between the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) and Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, as well as sustained cooperation across Nigeria’s security agencies.
He noted that the partnership has significantly boosted Nigeria’s counter-terrorism capacity and enhanced situational awareness across various operational areas.
Ribadu explained that the engagements have gone beyond discussions to concrete action, leading to better target identification, stronger operational precision, and improved joint planning.
He added that the collaboration has enabled more effective disruption of terrorist groups and transnational criminal networks, resulting in the neutralisation of several terrorists, destruction of logistics bases, and interception of key facilitators.
The NSA also praised the United States for its commitment to the timely delivery of military equipment, including drones, helicopters, platforms, spare parts, and related support systems acquired over the past five years.
He stressed that the cooperation has been carried out with full respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty, within agreed frameworks, and with a strong focus on joint operations, accountability, and civilian protection.
