Police sack 4 officers over killing of 7 traders at Lagos market

Jimoh assured the public of justice, citing ballistic and autopsy reports guiding prosecution.

Four police officers have been the dismissal over their involvement in the tragic killings of seven traders at Owode Onirin market in Lagos on August 2025.

The policemen killed the traders during a clash between landgrabbers and traders at the Owode-Onirin area of the state.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh confirmed the sack of the police officers on Thursday.

Olohundare who spoke to journalists at Ikeja Police Officers’ Mess assured that investigation is ongoing into the Owode Onirin killings.

He said the dismissed officers, brought from Nasarawa by the principal suspect ‘Ariori’, were involved in the unlawful killings.

Jimoh assured the public of justice, citing ballistic and autopsy reports guiding prosecution.

“This matter has not been swept under the carpet, and we want the public and all the families of the victims to know that nobody can stop us from ensuring that justice is done.

“We will leave no stone unturned and will not be intimidated by anyone.

“All suspects will be prosecuted, and the courts remain open to hear every case,” Jimoh said.

The commissioner emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to its constitutional duty of maintaining law and order, and no individual or group can obstruct the course of justice.

He explained that 98 per cent of the investigation is done, and the police will keep taking action to protect Lagos.

Jimoh urged residents and traders to stay alert, assuring them that the police are committed to safety and justice.
