Wike Approves Confirmation of 1,659 FCTA Workers

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved the confirmation of appointments for 1,659 employees of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

According to the statement, the decision followed a confirmation examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28, 2026.

A total of 2,281 workers participated in the exercise after being invited to sit for the test. However, the chairman of the commission, Emeka Ezeh, revealed that 2,512 staff members had originally been asked to attend the confirmation process.

Out of the number invited, only 2,281 showed up for the examination, while 224 officers failed to appear. Officials have expressed concern that some of the names on the list might belong to individuals who do not actually exist within the system.

The commission also noted that several of the employees who took part in the exercise had worked with the FCTA for years before their appointments were formally confirmed.

Some of the workers were first recruited in 2016 and 2019, while others joined shortly before Wike assumed office as FCT Minister in August 2023.

The confirmation exercise forms part of efforts to regularize the employment status of staff members who had been serving the administration without permanent confirmation.

In a related development, Wike recently urged residents of the nation’s capital, Abuja, not to allow politicians deceive them merely to win votes. He made the remark during a thank-you visit to stakeholders in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) following the election of supporters of Bola Tinubu in the February 21 Area Council elections.
