ADC Still Searching for Venue Ahead of National Convention

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it has yet to secure a venue in Abuja for its national convention, just 24 hours before the scheduled event, sparking concerns of alleged attempts to disrupt its preparations.

Party chieftain Kola Ologbondiyan disclosed this in a post on his 𝕏 account on Monday, alleging difficulties in securing an approved location in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, the party made multiple efforts to book venues but was repeatedly turned down.

He explained that the ADC formally requested to use Eagle Square and also wrote to the office of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, but received no response.

Ologbondiyan added that attempts to secure the Velodrome at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium were also unsuccessful after repeated visits to relevant officials.

He further claimed that privately owned event centres in Abuja had declined to host the convention, citing fears of possible harassment.

Despite the setbacks, the party insisted that its national convention will still go ahead as planned in Abuja on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Meanwhile, the ADC said it had already notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the event and assured members and supporters that preparations remain on course.

The venue challenge comes amid an ongoing leadership dispute within the party involving factions loyal to former Senate President David Mark and Nafiu Bala, following the resignation of former chairman Ralph Nwosu in 2025.

The crisis has also led to a standoff with INEC, which has refused to recognise either faction pending court decisions.

The internal rift has attracted the attention of several opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rauf Aregbesola, who recently staged a protest at INEC headquarters over concerns about pressure on opposition parties.
