Lagos Labour Leader Dies During International Labour Conference in Geneva

The Chairman of the Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Domingo Michael Adeleke, has passed away while attending the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Adeleke, who was among Nigeria’s delegates to the global labour gathering, reportedly fell ill during the event and was taken for medical treatment. However, he later died following a brief illness.

The sad development was confirmed by an official of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), who paid tribute to Adeleke as a devoted trade unionist known for his commitment to advancing the welfare and rights of workers.

According to the NLC representative, the labour movement in Nigeria received the news with profound grief, noting that Adeleke died while participating in the conference in Geneva.

“It is with deep sorrow that the Nigeria Labour Congress and the entire trade union movement in Nigeria, particularly the 2026 Workers’ Delegates to the International Labour Conference, announce the passing of Comrade Domingo Michael Adeleke, who died today in Geneva after a brief illness while attending the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference,” the statement read.
