Uzbekistan Introduces Temporary Visa and Entry Restrictions for Nigerian Passport Holders

SNOW TV NEWS DESK
Nigerians planning to travel to Uzbekistan may face fresh difficulties after the Central Asian country reportedly introduced temporary restrictions on visa issuance and entry for Nigerian citizens.

The development was disclosed in a notice published on the official portal of the Green Energy Technologies Central Asia (GETCA) exhibition, which listed Nigeria among several countries whose citizens are currently affected by the restrictions.

According to the notice, Nigerian passport holders are temporarily barred from obtaining visas and entering Uzbekistan, although individuals seeking entry under exceptional circumstances have been advised to contact the consular section of the Uzbek Embassy for further guidance.

The notice stated, “Temporary restrictions have currently been introduced on the issuance of visas and entry into the Republic of Uzbekistan for citizens of your country.”

Nigeria is not the only country affected by the reported policy. Nationals of Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Iraq, and Bangladesh have also been listed among those facing similar restrictions.

However, questions remain about the reasons behind the decision and how long the measures are expected to remain in place.

As of the time of reporting, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had not issued a detailed public explanation of the restrictions or announced a timeline for their possible removal. The country’s general visa information portal also does not appear to provide specific clarification regarding the reported suspension affecting Nigerian passport holders.

The development could create uncertainty for Nigerians planning to visit Uzbekistan for tourism, business meetings, educational opportunities, trade exhibitions, and other official engagements.

For Nigerian businesses and travelers with existing plans, the uncertainty may also mean additional costs, postponed arrangements, and possible disruptions to scheduled activities.

Intending travelers have therefore been advised to contact the nearest Uzbek diplomatic mission before making travel arrangements or proceeding with visa applications.

Until the Uzbek authorities provide further clarification, Nigerians are encouraged to treat the reported restrictions seriously and seek confirmation directly from the embassy, particularly if they believe they qualify for exceptional entry.

The situation also highlights the importance of obtaining updated immigration information before travelling internationally, as visa policies and entry requirements can change without much notice.
