AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Osimhen to Miss Super Eagles’ Double-Header Against Tanzania Over Injury

SNOW TV NEWS DESK
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is set to miss Nigeria’s two-legged 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying encounter against Tanzania after suffering a knee injury that requires surgery.

Turkish champions Galatasaray confirmed the development on Friday, announcing that the Nigerian international is scheduled to undergo knee surgery on Saturday following the injury he sustained during their UEFA Champions League clash against German side Stuttgart on Tuesday.

The setback is a major concern for both Galatasaray and the Super Eagles, considering Osimhen’s importance to the two teams’ attacking ambitions.

The 27-year-old has already been ruled out of Galatasaray’s squad for Saturday’s league fixture against Amedspor, with the striker expected to spend some time on the sidelines as he begins his recovery.

His absence will be a significant blow to Nigeria’s preparations for the upcoming qualifiers, as he remains one of the team’s most influential attacking players and a key source of goals.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to welcome Tanzania’s Taifa Stars to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, November 13, for their Matchday Three encounter.

Both countries will meet again four days later, on November 17, in the return fixture scheduled to take place in Dar es Salaam.

With Osimhen unavailable, Nigeria’s technical crew will have to consider alternative attacking options ahead of the two crucial fixtures.

His injury also raises questions about how quickly he can return to action for Galatasaray, although the club is yet to provide a definite recovery timeline.

For Nigeria, the immediate priority will be securing positive results against Tanzania despite the absence of their star striker. The coaching staff will now need to find a way to maintain the team’s attacking threat without one of its most important players.
