Gunshots Trigger Panic Near Donald Trump, President Escorted to Safety {VIDEO}

Tension gripped guests on Saturday night after gunshots were reported near Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., prompting swift action from security agents who evacuated the president and attendees.

The incident took place at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where hundreds had gathered for the high-profile annual event. Reports indicate that the suspect was intercepted and arrested at a security checkpoint just outside the main ballroom.

Reacting to the situation, Trump praised security agencies, stating that the United States Secret Service and other law enforcement personnel responded “quickly and bravely,” confirming that the attacker had been apprehended.

Armed tactical units reportedly stormed the venue shortly after the evacuation, securing key areas as police surrounded the hotel and helicopters monitored the situation from above.

In a message shared on social media, Trump reassured the public that senior officials were safe, noting that the First Lady, Vice President, and cabinet members were unharmed. He also disclosed plans to address the nation from the White House and reschedule the event within a month.

The gunfire was heard after the welcome address and during dinner, moments before the president was scheduled to speak. Although organisers initially suggested the programme would continue, it was later postponed due to the security breach.

A cabinet official, Mehmet Oz, confirmed hearing gunshots during the incident while being escorted out by security personnel.

Notably, the Washington Hilton Hotel has a history tied to presidential security concerns, having been the site of the Attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan.

Trump has also faced previous threats, including a shooting incident at a campaign rally in 2024 and another security scare in Florida months later.

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner—often dubbed the “Nerd Prom”—is an annual gathering of journalists, media executives, and political figures, traditionally held as a fundraising and networking event. This appearance marked Trump’s first attendance while serving as president, despite his long-standing tensions with the media.
