Daniel dares gov Abiodun, picks nomination form despite adoption

Senator Gbenga Daniel has moved ahead with his re-election plans, picking up nomination and expression of interest forms despite the All Progressives Congress endorsing Governor Dapo Abiodun as its consensus candidate for the 2027 elections.

The development follows a recent APC caucus meeting in Ijebu-Ode, where party leaders adopted Abiodun as their preferred candidate. Reports had suggested that Daniel, a former two-term governor and current senator for Ogun East, was prevented from attending the meeting.

Unfazed by the outcome, Daniel proceeded on Tuesday to obtain the nomination form, reaffirming his intention to continue representing Ogun East in the National Assembly. Sharing the update on his social media platforms, he stated that his goal remains to deliver effective and responsive representation under the APC ahead of the 2027 polls.

Reacting to speculation of internal rifts, APC State Publicity Secretary, Olufemi Nuberu, dismissed claims of division within the party. Speaking during a radio programme in Ilese-Ijebu, he maintained that the APC remains united despite reports of factional interests.

Nuberu also downplayed allegations that Daniel was excluded from the caucus meeting, describing them as unsubstantiated and lacking formal complaints. He stressed that party decisions are guided by verified information rather than rumours or online narratives.
